We utilize the workshop rotation method to teach our children about Jesus and give them a strong foundation in the bible. We began using this method in September 2002 and we hosted a training workshop for churches across New England in January 2004 that highlighted this method. The students and the Parent staff at Bethany Covenant Church have both benefited from the rotation model.
The Workshop Rotation Model, also popularly known as WORM, focuses on teaching utilizing a variety of different methods that take into consideration the different ways we all learn. Some of us remember well what we say or read and write (verbal), some learn better when we are actively involved (physical), others are analytical and want to know how and why (logical). There are also those who are learn best when they interact with others (interpersonal), or when they are viewing, or creating something (visual). Then there are those who learn the most when the explore an idea or project independently (reflective) and those who remember well what was presented to them musically (musical). Each person learns utilizing all of these methods but have strengths and weaknesses. Workshop rotation model helps us to address the strengths and reduce weaknesses. One great benefit is how very few behavior issues have been seen at BCC since we began this program.
Utilizing this method we organize our teaching to use multiple workshops for learning a bible story. The same bible story is learned over a three to four week period but each week it is presented in a different format; drama, cooking, art, Science, storytelling, puppetry, games and drama are all used.. The story and the accompanying bible memory verse are emphasized each week to maintain a connection through the rotation.
Some of the rotations we have taught include Abraham and Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Ruth, Gideon, Joshua, Josiah , Hezekiah, Miracles, Parables, The 12 disciples, The Resurrection, and the Christmas story using this method. Each week the students go to a different room depending on the rotation.
If your child has any food allergies please let us know.
One strength of this program is our Shepherd team. These committed volunteers devote one term to one year getting to know their “flock” of children. They make relationships that last long past Children’s Ministry and into youth ministry.
Children's Ministry provides programs for children ages 3 months-6th grade. We offer programs during the 9 am and 10:30am services.

All volunteers working with children are expected to complete necessary paperwork for a background check. We will provide this to you if you are new or your previous paperwork is more than 5 years old.
If you cannot serve at this time or should not be around children, please speak confidentially with Kelly Tibbitts.

Express interest in your child’s class! Your child will come home with papers and crafts relating to the Bible lesson they just learned. This is material for you to see what they are learning and to use it in discussion and application throughout the week.
Express appreciation to your child’s volunteer teachers! All teachers spend time throughout the week preparing for Sunday morning and weekly events. They love to serve; however, it’s nice to receive recognition as well.
Communicating:
Please keep open communication with Kelly Tibbitts! Just like at school, there are personal family or developmental issues that may affect your child at church. We want to be able to provide the most appropriate environment and support for your child. If you also have any concerns, ideas, etc. about Children’s Ministry please let Kelly know.

How does Rotation Sunday school work
It's called the Workshop Rotation Model, and it works like this:
Children from first grade to fourth grade are divided into age-specific groups. Major Bible stories and concepts are presented through kid-friendly multimedia workshops, for example, Art, Drama, Games, Science, Puppets, Storytelling, Cooking, or any other educational media we can devise. We teach the same Bible story in each of the workshops for as 3-4 weeks, rotating the groups to a different workshop each week. One Scripture memory verse underlies the lessons during the entire rotation and is emphasized each week. In this way, children have opportunity to take in the lessons from Scripture over several weeks.
What's Great About Workshop Rotation?
The kids love it! Feedback has been positive - they're
clearly having a lot of fun in Sunday School, and are learning at the same time. They enjoy the variety (they all have their favorites) and have amazed their teachers and shepherds with what they have retained, including memorized Scriptures.
Repetition. The Workshop Rotation Model concentrates on the major stories of the Bible over and over again. The model's philosophy recognizes that kids not only love repetition, but they need it to develop a lasting memory and understanding of content.
Multi-modal learning.
Children learn in different ways.
The various approaches to learning employed over the 3 or 4 week presentation of a Bible story take advantage of this. Traditional Sunday School with one lead teacher requires a lesson with six or more different steps, a game, a craft, Bible study and music all in 45 minutes leaving only really organized, gifted teachers to teach the children. Parents are the ones called to raise their children into spiritual champions, and with The Rotation model, all parents can be a part of our Sunday morning team. With the workshop Rotation Model, teachers and shepherds can each do one thing, and do it well.
Teacher repetition.
By the second week of the rotation, the teacher is already improving the original lesson plan for the next class. Since each workshop uses essentially the same lesson plan for several weeks in a row, every week isn't a production. And because the teacher is assigned to teach in the creative mode they are comfortable with, the teaching and learning experience are enriched.
There are many websites – like www.rotation.org -- that feature complete rotation lesson plans, a resource directory and a creative ideas area for each workshop, all of which can be printed out for free. The lessons and ideas are contributed from other Workshop Rotation churches. Using on-line material allows us to update
for our needs as we wish.

Children's Ministry Mission and Staff
Children's Ministry is led by
Kelly Tibbitts- Director of Children's Ministry
Cindy Carlson and Diana Hutchinson- Early Childhood Directors
Lis Hood and Jen Bless- Elementary Directors
and a Volunteer Support Team led by
Todd Wallace, Beth Fitzgerald , Sue Cassidy and David Cassidy
Our Mission is to help children take
Small Steps Closer to Christ
Our Objectives are:
• To make disciples of our children and their families by providing a safe, nurturing environment where children are accepted and loved.
• To make disciples of our children by intentionally shepherding them. This includes providing opportunities for children to accept Jesus as their Lord, be baptized, receive communion and grow in the knowledge of the Word.
• To make new disciples by reaching out to the community with programming that introduces children and their families to Jesus Christ.
• To make disciples of parents and other volunteers by providing opportunities to serve.
• To provide relevant, creative instruction in God’s Word. We desire that our children would observe all that God has commended. We also want them to take God’s promises and hide them in their hearts.
