New Year Spiritual Formation Tips for families

As you make your New Year's Resolutions, here are some tips from the Christian Formation Department that will help you bring your child closer to Christ.

Tips for Parents
As parents, we ask ourselves if we can draw on the strength of God and find peace? Can we really know God? Can we talk to God and hear God? Can we lay our burdens on God? Can we have a personal loving relationship with God? Can our children?

As we look through the lens of scripture and our current culture, we believe there are three shifts that need to be made in order to be more effective in providing environments in which the Spirit can be at work to transform lives. These shifts are:

From primary focus on program to personal transformation

Our focus should always be to help our children connect with and grow closer to God.
From head emphasis to heart, head, and hands.
Growing closer to God involves more than just head knowledge.
We also grow closer by what we do. But knowing and doing mean little if our hearts are not open to change.

From primarily segmented to integrated and holistic
Spiritual growth can and should happen in all settings, not just at church.
The church and home are called to partner together to help children and youth grow spiritually.

You are called to be disciples, to be spiritual nurturers. God knows your name and the names of your children. Do not be afraid. Jesus says, “I love you! I am with you, and from now on you will be catching people.”

How do you begin?
Begin today
Being with one thing
Begin with prayer
Trust God
Remember that you can’t change everything at once
Listen to God

9:00 Sunday School

Sunday School is offered for nursery, ages 3 and 4 , age 5 and Kindergarten,
Grades 1-4 and Grades 5 & 6.

Preschool Programs teach one Bible lesson a week using the alphabet as a guide.
A is for Abraham, C is for Caleb, etc.. They study lessons on a two year schedule using the Beginner's Bible.

Connect 1234 is our Workshop Rotation program for grades 1-4. Our teaching method uses multiple workshops for learning a bible story. The same bible story is learned over a three to four week period but each week it is presented in a different format; drama, cooking, art, Science, storytelling, puppetry, games and drama are all used.. The story and the accompanying bible memory verse are emphasized each week to maintain a connection through the rotation.

The strength of this program is the shepherd teams who commit to serving each week. They get to know the children, pray with them and help them apply the Bible to their lives.

Our 2010-2011 rotations include 8 weeks on the Prophets of the Old Testament using "elevate" material by Creative Pastors. We will also study Abraham and Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Miracles, Parables, The 12 disciples, The Resurrection, and the Christmas story using this method. Each week the students go to a different room depending on the rotation. Drop off and pick up are always in Fellowship Hall.

Club 56 is our Sunday Morning program for 5th and 6th graders.we study the Old Testament and put it in chronological order this Fall and study scripture with a plan to "Take it Home" and learn Bible study and life discipleship skills.

This class is taught by a team of 4 families who have committed to teaching this entire year.

What we are learning in Children's Church at 10:30

Our Children will study one Bible lesson a week, and learn a scripture that helps them develop a Biblical Worldview. Our desire is that they would look to see how scripture helps them make choices that help them take steps closer to Christ.

Children's Church lessons are taught in a contemporary way with an understanding that all children learn differently. We apply scripture using games, crafts and snacks in our Preschool and elementary age programs. This Winter and Spring, Children in grades 1-4 will study the following Parables.
